8 October 2009 – The Augmented Reality Group under the leadership of Dr. Edmund Ng. Giap Weng won the MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific Information Communication Technology Alliance (MSC Malaysia APICTA) 2009 winner award. UNIMAS won the prestigious winner award for Best of Communications Applications Category, an award which is presented to the most ICT Solutions that make creative use of communications technologies which include software and/or hardware related to transmission of sign, signals, writing, images, sounds, voice, video, data, or intelligence by digital or analog, electromagnetic or electronic signals through existing and emerging media (e.g., radio, telephone, television, facsimile, SMS, MMS, GPRS, Internet, WiFi, WiMax, 3G, Bluetooth and RFID).
At a glittering gala dinner organised by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) at the PWTC recently, the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili, presented the award, which consists of a trophy
and a signed certificate.
This is the third year in a row that entries from UNMAS have won prizes in the annual competition. The MSC Malaysia Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (MSC Malaysia APICTA) Awards, under the patronage of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, provides a platform to stimulate creativity, innovation and excellence in ICT in Malaysia, benchmarks Malaysian ICT products and solutions, and recognises outstanding achievements in ICT, of students, technopreneurs, SMEs and organisations with operations in Malaysia. Winners of this annual Awards Programme represent Malaysia at the International Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards, which is hosted in Melbourne, Australia (one of the sixteen APICTA member economies) on 14-17 December 2009.
